One of the biggest perks of blogging is being invited to cool events where you get to geek out over girly things like makeup with others just as obsessed as you. One such recent event was the ACI Beauty preview at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia a couple weeks ago. A beauty preview event is where media get to check out all the new products before they hit stores. It's a great way to learn about brands and try out products as each brand has representatives there to educate you on the details of each new thing. There's also free food and goody bags! ACI Beauty, the host of this particular event, is one of the largest Canadian distributors of health and beauty products and represent a myriad of brands.
As soon as I walked in to the presentation, I gravitated right away to the Stila table. While this year so far has been all about the natural look a la Hourglass' Ambient powders and Urban Decay's Naked 3, Stila has taken the opposite approach and released a series of bold metallic cream shadows. The Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finish eye shadows ($32) are cream-to-powder shadows that give you a brilliant wet, metallic look. To apply, it's recommended that you first mix it with a bit of Stila's All Day Liquid Eye Primer ($20) and then pat onto your eyelid with a silicone brush. I'm very skeptical whether I'd have the skill or patience to go through such a process and with how well the primer prevents creasing on hooded eyes like mine, but I wouldn't say no to trying!
Other Stila items included their LE Convertible Colour Bronzing Duo ($33) and the Stila Smudge Stick eyeliners ($26). I fell in love with the eyeliners as soon as I saw them swatched, as each had super pigmented, creamy color with just the perfect hint of sheen to brighten eyes.
Finally, we checked out the Stila CC cream ($44). I'm so sad this wasn't in our goody bag!! The CC creams had gorgeous finishes to them and literally melted into skin, leaving it with a velvety finish.
Next was my second favourite brand at the event, Cargo Cosmetics. I'm so surprised by how little reviews I read for Cargo as they make fantastic products. I'm a huge fan of their eyeshadow palettes and blushes and seeing them laid on the table made my Pokemon-like "gotta catch them all!" hackles rise.
Featured here were all the shades of the Cargo Swimmables Water Resistant blushes ($26) and the Cargo Contour Palettes ($36). If the palettes offer anything like the awesome color payoff of the Swimmables blushes, then I'm sold! I also love how Cargo etches into their palette pans the areas where each color is to be applied - so handy for beginners!
Other highlights at Cargo were their pressed powders and the new LE Suited to a Tea palette ($46). Packaged in an adorable tea themed case, this palette offers a range of colorful, yet subtle shades and comes with a mirror and double-ended brush.
After Cargo, it was time to check out Anna Sui. By this time, I think my eyes were getting tired from being wide-eyed, but like a trooper I carried on ;)
Anna Sui wasn't offering too many new editions, but one highlight for me was the portable compact version of their popular loose face powder. Coming a in a cute white compact with a mini signature pouf, the Loose Compact powder ($45) offers a silky matte look that lasts all day. If I had one complaint, I would wish that it could also come in metal casing so that the etchings had a more vintage-glam look.
I am however 100% a fan of the new Anna Sui LE lipsticks ($29). They're the same great colors and rose scent as normal Anna Sui lipsticks, but in fun bright packaging that is a departure from the normal all-black look.
Last, but not least, were the Ceramic Glaze and Seche tables. I know nothing about either brand of polishes as I've never used them before, so I cannot speak to their quality, but all the colors look really fun and perfect for wearing on the beach!
I did however get to try out a couple of the more spring-like colors thanks to a complimentary mani provided at the event by Haus of Lacquer. I was so in love with the colors, I immediately went out and purchased them the day after!
The best part of the day though was meeting up with fellow bloggers Jayne, Jasmine, Jenn and Gerry. It was such a blast to gossip, squee and laugh with these girls. If you've never checked out their blogs, do so right now!
