Dr Brandt Dark Circles Away Collagen Eye Serum Review

Just J: Dr Brandt Dark Circles Away Collagen Eye Serum

I've got another eye product review for you this week! This one comes via Dr. Brandt, a new brand to me that is  now being carried at London Drugs and which focuses on anti-aging. Dr. Brandt is a celebrity dermatologist (just check out this soap opera worthy pic) whose products are a mix of science and Eastern botanicals.

The Product
The Dr Brandt Dark Circles Away Collagen Eye Serum is a cooling roller ball serum designed for use alone or with your regular eye cream. This eye serum has a lot of claims, including, but not limited to:
  • reducing puffiness
  • eliminating dark under-eye circles
  • strengthening the eye area
  • brightening the entire eye area

The Guts
The primary ingredients in this product are:
  • water
  • glycerin - moisturizer
  • triheptanoin - provides moisture, but mainly causes the product to feel slippery and moist
  • caprylyl trimethicone - a silicone type ingredient, it makes the product feel slippery and temporarily plumps up skin by filling in fine lines
  • triisostearin - an emollient that helps plump up skin
Other ingredients of note are white lily (repairs skin) and arginine (antioxidant). Weirdly enough, there's also an ingredient (Ptychopetalum olacoides bark/stem extract) which is a naturally derived ingredient that's typically used to treat impotence! Not sure why you'd need that in an eye cream...

Price & Packaging
The packaging of this product has a lot to do with its efficacy as the serum is delivered via a metallic roller-ball. For $52.80, you will get 15 mL of product.

Effectiveness
I've been using this serum daily for about a month. The instructions state that you can wear this alone or layered under an eye cream, so I tried it both ways: solo during the day and under my Lise Watier Age Control Supreme eye cream at night.

The serum is slightly tinted, which when blended well, also helps reduce dark circles. The roller-ball feels very refreshing, but is quite slippery and takes awhile to absorb, which makes it a bit of a pain for daytime application. I found it also pilled a bit when worn on its own.

I wore the serum by itself during the day for a couple of weeks and noticed that my fine lines were slowly coming back. Now I only wear it at night, but haven't really noticed any additional benefit when layered with my eye cream. Since fine lines are more my concern than puffiness (which I don't have) or dark circles, I'm not sure this serum is for me.

Buy or Ditch?
Ditch.
