I was fortunate enough to try out two NSPA products over the past month: the Youthful Eye Cream and the Skin Renewal Gel.
The Youthful Eye Cream is an anti-aging daily eye cream containing collagen boosting peptides and natural extracts to help lighten dark circles, reduce puffiness and stave off fine lines.
The Skin Renewal Gel is a chemical exfoliator that uses the power of plant extracts and fruit acids to reveal a brighter, more even-toned version of you. The unique gel-to-oil formula replicates the luxurious ritual of a spa facial at home, but is gentle enough to be used 2-3 times a week.
The primary ingredients in the Youthful Eye Cream are:
- Isopropyl palmitate - an emollient, meaning it helps capture moisture in your skin and smooths the surface, meaning less fine lines. This ingredient does have a risk of clogging pores, but since this your eye area, the risk is probably minimal
- Glycerin - moisturizer
- Cetearyl alcohol - an emulsifier
- Arachidyl alcohol - an emollient and emulsifier
This eye cream also contains vitis vinifera (Grape) Leaf Oil (fragrance, emollient), bilberry extract (antioxidant), sugar cane extract (moisturizing, anti-aging), sweet orange oil (astringent), and apricot extract (antioxidants).
The primary ingredients in the Skin Renewal Gel are:
- Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Leaf Oil - an emollient
- Glycerin - a moisturizer
- Sucrose laurate - an emollient and surfactant that provides the main cleansing action in this gel. Helps to break down dirt and makeup.
- Vaccinium myrtillus (bilberry) extract - an antioxidant
Other ingredients in this gel include panax ginseng root extract (anti-aging, skin brightener), sugar cane extract (moisturizing, anti-aging), lemon extract (vitamin C, antioxidant), and avocado oil (moisturizing, antioxidants).
Both products are available at Walmart for $15.97.
Packaging & Texture
The Youthful Eye Cream comes in a cute little 15 mL jar. Compared to the Obiqo eye cream, this seemed almost sample sized, but there's plenty of product in here to last you for quite a while. For those who are more sticklers for hygiene, there is no applicator included. Texture-wise, this cream feels very slippery and as such, application is a little messy. It takes awhile for this product to absorb, but otherwise its quite soft and cooling.
The Skin Renewal Gel is a peachy gel that's housed in a straight-forward tube. I quite like how the tube is clear so you can see how much product you have left. The tube is a huge 125 mL so it will last you FOREVER. Texture wise, this feels like a thick, creamy translucent gel that actually feels a little jelly-like.
The Youthful Eye Cream is pretty decent as an eye cream. I love the ingredients and it works well to keep my eye hydrated all day. If you don't like thick creams then this one will probably strike your fancy as it's slightly thinner than the creams I usually use. After 8 hours I began to notice slight dry lines appearing under my eyes, but it does make your eye area look brighter and more even. While using this cream, I found I didn't need to apply nearly as much foundation!
The Skin Renewal Gel has become a recent favourite of mine. I love exfoliating and with all the recent drama my skin's been going through, I feel that this gel has just given my face a strict "Simmer down there!" command. This starts off as a gel in the hand, but as soon as it touches damp skin, it emulsifies into a milky consistency.
To use the Skin Renewal Gel, massage into your skin for about a minute, then wait. At first this waiting period mystified me, but really it actually does something - after a few seconds, massage your skin again and watch the milkiness dissolve into a clear cleaning oil! Like other chemical exfoliators, the Skin Renewal Gel is gentle, but effective. In fact, it's so gentle that oilier skins could probably use this everyday instead of the 2-3 times a week recommendation. I use the Skin Renewal Gel every other night after my cleansing oil and it helps to give me more luminous, fresh skin. It's also quite relaxing to just take a moment to gently massage your day's stresses away. While I still itch for a good grainy scrub and a clay mask to really get down deep into pores, I've found this gel to be a new staple in my facial routine!
Buy - both of these products contain a solid list of natural ingredients and are a great solution for someone wanting gentle, hydrating skin care.
Come back next week as I'll be hosting a giveaway of NSPA products!
