Burberry Fresh Glow Foundation Review | Glow + coverage = love

burberry fresh glow foundation no 26 beige

Burberry Beauty products are new for me, as they're not widely available in Canada and also because I'm a cheapo who hates shelling out money on makeup. Foundation however, is one of those items worth splurging on as they're literally the foundation of your look. If you're going to be layering something over top of your skin everyday, then make sure that it's something of good quality that won't leave your skin worse off than before!

My latest high end base product discovery is the Burberry Fresh Glow foundation, a light coverage foundation that gives skin a dewy, youthful luminosity thanks to its formulation of light reflecting pearls and color pigments that smooth and illuminate. Besides making you look good, the Fresh Glow foundation also helps to improve your skin, with extracts of rosehip, lavender, vitamins and antioxidants to fight signs of aging, as well as SPF 15 to combat sun damage! Available in 14 different shades ranging from a pink-toned porcelain to a deep cocoa, there's plenty of range to fit most everyone. I received to try the No. 26 Beige, a light golden beige that is a mid-range shade within the line.

The Guts:
The primary ingredients in this product are:
  • Water
  • Dimethicone - a silicone that help plump up fine lines and smooths out bumps and pores
  • Cyclopentasiloxane - a silicone that gives formulas a slippery, spreadable texture and which leaves skin feeling soft and velvety smooth.
  • Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate - aka octinoxate, this is a common sunscreen ingredient. There are some studies that implicate that it may be damaging to skin, but this hasn't been definitively proven
  • PEG-10 dimethicone - another silicone that helps adhere product to skin
This foundation also includes mica (absorbent), and camellia extract (anti-inflammatory). as well as the aforementioned rosehip (antioxidant) and lavender.

Price & Packaging
A 30 ml bottle costs $60 and is available for purchase online via Burberry and through Burberry Beauty boutiques. The bottle is quite slim, which makes you think you're not getting much, but it's actually the same size as the much wider and squatter Lancome Teint Visionnaire, which lasted me for AGES. The bottle itself is a sleek plastic with an outer casing inlaid with the Burberry plaid. Underneath the removable outer casing is a simple black pump. I liked how slim this foundation is as it makes it easy for travel and the lid is nice and sturdy so you won't need to worry about it sliding off accidentally.

On a day to day basis, I prefer my foundation to be super light and weightless, so the Fresh Glow has the perfect texture for me. The Fresh Glow is very watery and spreads easily with both fingers and brushes. I prefer using this with a thick buffing brush as opposed to a regular flat foundation brush as it leaves less streaking and also helps spread the product further. To use, I simply dot foundation across my face with my fingers and then gently buff it out with my brush. The end result is dewy, sheer coverage that evens out my skin tone, eliminates redness and lightly covers my hyper-pigmentation. For my blemish scars and the darker hyper-pigmentation on my cheekbones, I'll go in with another couple of layers of foundation, patting it on with my fingertips and then tapping concealer on top if I need extra coverage. Even with all that, some bit of discoloration comes through, so don't expect to get a crazy flawless finish with this foundation. One full pump is enough to cover my face.

Once set, I don't have any problems with this foundation melting, oxidizing or fading away all day. The color no. 26 Beige is a perfect skin match for my NC 20 skin, although when I swatched it, it leaned very very slightly orange compared to my arm.

I found this foundation to be very similar in texture, color and feel to the Lancome Teint Visionnaire, which was my current HG foundation. Between the two, I'm not sure which I would repurchase over the other. Perhaps the edge goes slightly towards the Lancome as it also comes with an anti-aging balm and Lancome is more widely available and therefore more likely to go on sale!

Final Verdict
Buy - pricey, but worth every penny. Offers excellent dewy light coverage that lasts all day and feels absolutely weightless.
