Stila Got Inked Cushion Eyeliner and La Quill Precision Eyeliner Brush Review | The latest Asian trend to arrive for eyes!
Wednesday, November 4, 2015
Eyeliner is a staple in everyone's makeup aresenal and liquid eyeliner especially is an essential in mine. It's not too often that you see true innovation in eyeliners so when I heard that Stila was releasing a cushion eyeliner, I just had to get my grubby paws on it!
The Stila Got Inked Cushion Eyeliner jumps onto the latest Korean makeup trend import and revamps the idea of cushion foundations for use with eyes. If you've never heard of cushion anything, then here's the lowdown: cushion foundations first became popular in Asia and consist of a compact where a sponge "cushion" is soaked through with foundation, which the wearer then uses a powder puff to gently pick up and deposit color onto the skin. The overall effect is supposed to give a true airbrush finish and helps give skin that dewy, youthful look that's so popular in Asia. The Stila Got Inked Cushion Eyeliner uses the same concept by soaking a cushion with color that is then picked up by an eyeliner brush. For their new Got Inked Cushion Eyeliner, Stila debuted an accompanying brush called the La Quill Precision Eyeliner Brush especially for use with this liner. The La Quill brush has an especially thin and pointed tip that helps you to easily create precise, dramatic lines.
The Stila Got Inked Cushion Eyeliner comes in 6 gorgeous shades: Black Obsidian, Amethyst Ink, Blue Sapphire Ink, Smoky Quartz, Copper Ink and Garnet Ink. The shade I received was Blue Sapphire Ink and I must say it is an absolutely stunning shade of sapphire blue with iridescent highlights.
To use, simply take your La Quill Precision brush, generously press it into the cushion and then line your eyes as usual. The La Quill Precision brush is travel-sized, so it might be a bit tricky to use if you have big hands, but for my midget hands it's just right. I love the pointed tip of this liner as it really does allow for precise application.
Sadly though, the Got Inked Cushion did not wow me as much as its custom brush. Peeking at the beautiful peacock blue in the jar, I was really really pumped to wear this. Blues aren't usually my thing, but give me a stunning royal or navy blue and I will get my blue on! Unfortunately, Blue Sapphire Ink was super duper streaky and even with multiple passes it was near impossible to get a true wash of color across my lids. I tried layering more product onto my brush and just applying a bit at a time, but still to no avail. Judging by other reviewers who have used other shades, this might be isolated to just the Blue Sapphire shade, but I'm still sad that my inky blue eye dreams were not fulfilled.
You can purchase the Stila Got Inked Cushion Eyeliner and La Quill Precision Eyeliner Brush at Sephora for $36 each.
