Trust Fund Beauty Lipgasm Lipsticks in Something Witty, Off the Record and Vintage Vices

When I first got the pitch about Trust Fund Beauty I have to admit that I was initially intrigued because of the mention of how Khloe Kardashian loves their nail polishes. I don't watch Keeping Up With the Kardashians, but it's impossible not to know who they are and I've always admired their skillz with the makeup. Anyways, it got me reading through the press release and so I learned that Trust Fund Beauty is 100% vegan, cruelty-free (obviously) and dedicated to creating safe, guilt-free and most importantly fun cosmetics.

Known for their 10-free nail polishes, Trust Fund Beauty is now expanding into lipsticks with a line of liquid and matte lipsticks. The matte Lipgasm Lipsticks are available in 12 shades and while they don't seem available online yet, I have read online that they are $22 each.

Trust Fund Beauty was kind enough to send over three of the new shades for me to try: Vintage Vices, Off the Record and Something Witty and after trying these out for a couple of weeks, I'm ready to share my thoughts!

The Guts
Since being vegan is such a big part of Trust Fund Beauty's branding, let's take a peek into the ingredients, shall we? The primary ingredients in the Lipgasm Lipsticks are:
  • Ethylhexyl palmitate - derived from palm oil, this is often used as a replacement for silicone and acts mainly as an emollient
  • Ceresin - a substitute for beeswax and acts as a thickener
  • Tridecyl trimellitate - a substitute for mineral oil that acts as a thickener
  • Microcrystalline wax - another thickener

Packaging
Each Lipgasm Lipstick comes in a really beautiful pink and white box, but the tubes themselves a pretty plain semi-matte plastic. I was a little surprised by how light the tube packaging was and a little disappointed as well. If these do cost upwards of $20, it would have been nice if Trust Fund Beauty had made these a little weightier.

Pigmentation and Wear
As I mentioned, I received three shades to try:

Vintage Vices is the palest lipstick I've ever tried. In the tube it is a very pale, petal pink and when swatched, it comes off as a blush-white color. Needless to say, I didn't take any photos of myself wearing this as it looks really really horrible on my skin tone! First, it settles horribly into every single line. Second it makes me look like I'm trying to be a ghost. I really don't know how anyone is supposed to wear this as it just makes your lips white. Maybe this is one of those shades that you're supposed to wear over top of others to change their tone, but it's so cool-toned I highly doubt it would look good with anything on me. Definitely a Ditch for me!

Off the Record on the other hand, fared better as it's a warm pink, almost coral, color. Similar to Vintage Vices though, I found this to settle a lot in lines and unlike most mattes, it failed to truly set. Instead of being matte, I'd call this more of a creme or satin. I'm really into the whole mauve-neutral pinks trend right now, so Off the Record is not something I'd wear regularly, but it is a fun shade for anyone who likes wearing brights and is very summer appropriate.

astly, is the shade Something Witty, which looks very similar to Off the Record in the tube, but is more of a neon blue-toned pink on. This is way out my comfort zone as far as lipsticks go and is what I'd call a "Barbie" lipstick. Definitely not pretty on me, but if you have the right coloring, I think this would look really fun!

Regardless of the shade, each of the Lipgasm Lipsticks wore very similarly. They all settle into every crevice on your lips, so exfoliating and moisturizing is definitely required beforehand! Also, these lipsticks have a strange, almost oily texture that melts onto your lips as you apply, but never quite sets so that I would get these weird crusts of color at the edges of my lips that I'd have to blot off (you can see these in the closeup of me wearing Something Witty). The best way to wear these is to apply, blot and repeat a couple times; doing this will give you the closest to a matte finish with an even distribution of color that you'll get.

Texture issues aside, each Lipgasm Lipstick was fairly pigmented, reaching opaqueness in just a couple swipes and the pointed bullet shape made application easy, even in the corners of my lips. Sadly, I don't have much good to say about these lipsticks other than that.

Final Verdict
Ditch - if you like bright, pop-arty colors then you may be interested in checking these out, but for me, the weird oily texture and failure to set, made this fun concept fall flat in reality.
