Life Lately: Kelowna Wine Tasting with Uncorked Wine Tours!

I thought I'd take a little break from all the beauty posts and do a life lately post, now that I actually have something interesting to write about myself for once!

Earlier this month, my best friend and her boyfriend were visiting from China so Mr. Artist and I decided to plan a little impromptu weekend trip out of town. From Vancouver, the Okanagan region of British Columbia is just a few hours drive, which is near enough to not feel like a hassle, but far enough that you feel like you're actually on a journey.

I can't recommend enough heading out this way in summer. I was so blown away by how beautiful and peaceful it was. The drive itself was pretty boring, but man are the mountains beautiful! Kelowna is probably the most well-known town in the region, but there are plenty of other nearby towns to stay in that all border the large Okanagan lake. We opted to stay in Peachland which is half an hour and across the lake from Kelowna.

I have to give props to Airbnb as we managed to find an amazing, brand-new mountain top condo overlooking the lake. Just check out these views!

As much as I could have just spent an afternoon sipping tea and reading here, our main purpose that weekend was to be cultured and sophisticated by spending a day drinking wine on one of Kelowna's famous wine tours. There are so many wine tour options in the region and given that there are apparently 242 (and counting!) wineries in Kelowna alone, rest assured that each tour will give you a unique experience. After reading all the rave TripAdvisor reviews, we settled on Uncorked's West Kelowna tour which covers 5 wineries in about as many hours, along with a stopover for lunch.

At $129 per person, the tour seems pricey but looks about average for most tours I saw online and it includes transportation and all your tasting fees, plus you get VIP seating at all the wineries!

Our tour started off at the uber-classy and popular Mission Hill, where we got a tour of the property and the wine cellars.

This was just for our group!

Next, we did a total 180 ambiance wide and drove down the road to the small "shack-like" winery, The Hatchery. The playful, easygoing style of The Hatchery definitely appealed to me way more and of course being a beauty blogger, I was swooning over their fun packaging which features dinosaurs and doodles by children.

Who wouldn't want to drink something that's called "Octo bubble?" Sounds like a Pokemon!

By this point, we'd probably tasted 10 different wines already and all I'd eaten was a scone, so after this my impressions get a little hazy, so I'll just let my photos speak for themselves.

Barrel chairs: not as comfy as they look

Love how the wineries are literally right beside, and in the middle of, neighborhoods

The other wineries we visited were Mt. Boucherie, Little Straw, and lastly Quail's Gate. At each spot, we had various hosts explain the history of the winery, its philosophy and how to taste the different wines presented. It was so fun to learn how to properly bring out the flavours of the wine and I'm now a firm believer in aerating as it really makes such a huge difference!

While I wish we'd actually had one more day just to visit the lake and wander around the town, our weekend away was truly a relaxing retreat and I'm definitely planning to head back!

Post wine tour feast. Grocery shopping while drunk is not a smart idea!
