Maybelline Color Sensational Inti-Matte Nudes Lipstick Review | What better way to celebrate Easter long weekend than with new lippies?
Friday, April 14, 2017
Are you all sick of lipstick posts lately? I'm sorry if I've been boring you lately with so many lipstick themed posts. Is it possible that my lipstick obsession is WORSE than my neutral eyeshadow obsession? Hey, we all have our vices. Check your judgment at the door.
Anyways, happy Easter long weekend! I'm not religious, so Easter for me always meant ham dinners, chocolate eggs, bunnies and new spring shopping. I let myself buy 1 pair of shoes per season and I've already bought my new spring shoes, a pair of slip-on black flat mules with a metallic gold heel, and to match them, I picked up a couple of spring toned lipsticks!
The Maybelline Color Sensational Inti-Matte Nudes came out late last year I believe and are a line of creamy, matte-finish lipsticks. Yeah yeah, been there done that right, but these aren't your old-school mattes. These are 2017 mattes, which means a more hydrating finish with a velvety finish for a softer, more wearable look than the super mattes of the last couple years.
An ode to nudes (or MLBBs!)
Available in 10 shades, the Maybelline Color Sensational Inti-Matte Nudes are a lipstick lover's dream capsule collection. All the shades lean towards the neutral to warm side, ranging from a pale golden blush (Hot Sand), to a rosy coral (Naked Coral) and a deep rose (Toasted Truffle).
While all the shades are quite pretty, I only picked up 2: Almond Rose and Ravishing Rose. Well technically Ravishing Rose is from the Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte line, but to be honest, based on my experiences, there's little difference between these 2 lines except the shade names.
Almond Rose stole my heart from first swatch. In the tube, it looks like a true rose pink and it's the perfect MLBB on me. I just had to buy it!
Ravishing Rose on the other hand, is a funner pink. It's a medium blue-toned pink that's still warm enough that it doesn't look weird on me, but just perks up my lips with some fun Barbie-esque flair.
A super creamy texture.. almost too creamy
Both shades apply really easily, although they wear longer if you don't apply them over lip balm. They have an almost oily texture that melts easily onto my lips and are pleasingly pigmented. I can easily get to opacity in just a couple of swipes and I didn't notice either shade to settle into my lip lines or to feather.
Wear time is average for a matte lipstick. You can pretty much apply and forget about it if you aren't going to be drinking or eating, but if you do, then you should probably reapply. Almond Rose faded better over time than Ravishing Rose as it stained my lips just a bit.
Almost perfect, but...
The only thing I don't like about these is that they smell funky. There's a weird, artificial scent that comes off when first applied, but thankfully, this dissipates quickly. It also tastes kinda weird if you happen to lick your lips so yeah, don't do that.
You can purchase both of these at most drugstores for around $10 or less. I'm pretty impressed by these and while they're not my favourite formula, for a drugstore option, they've both easily found their way into my daily rotation.
Final Verdict: Buy
Life Lately: What are some of your favourite Spotify playlists? Lately I've been into a hip-hop and rnb kick. As I'm writing this, I'm listening to the "Love, Sex & Water" playlist, but "Hip Hop Empire" is also often on repeat too.
